【브레이크뉴스 의성】이성현 기자=의성군(군수 김주수)은 의성군청컬링팀이 11월 30일부터 의정부컬링장에서 열리고 있는 2024~2025 컬링 슈퍼리그에 참가한다고 6일 밝혔다.

대한컬링연맹이 주최·주관하는 이번 대회는 남녀 4인조 일반부로 진행되며, 총 11개 팀(남자 5팀, 여자 6팀)으로 실업팀 전원이 참가한다.
리그 방식은 예선전에서 더블 라운드로빈 후 2, 3위 팀은 플레이오프에 진출하여 단판 경기를 치르고 승리한 팀이 파이널에 진출한다. 파이널에서는 1위 팀과 2, 3위 승자팀이 3판 2선승제 경기를 펼치게 된다.
의성군청컬링팀 남자팀은 12월 3일, 여자팀은 12월 14일에 첫 경기를 한다. 시상에는 1위 2,000만원, 2위 400만원, 3위 100만원에 해당하는 상금이 주어진다.
현 국가대표팀이며 강력한 우승 후보인 의성군청컬링팀(남)은 10~11월 캐나다 전지훈련을 실시하여 해외 강팀들과 아이스 훈련을 통해 팀워크 및 경기력을 향상하였으며 10월 27일부터 치러진 범대륙 컬링선수권대회에 참가하여 5위를 차지해 내년 세계남자컬링선수권대회 진출권을 쟁취했다.
한편, 의성군청컬링팀(여)도 11~12월 캐나다 전지훈련을 실시하여 다양한 아이스 훈련을 통해 실전 감각 및 경기력을 대폭 끌어올렸다.
김주수 의성군수는 “이번 컬링 슈퍼리그에서 우수한 성적으로 의성군청컬링팀의 한 해를 멋지게 장식하길 바란다”라며 선수들에게 아낌없는 응원을 보냈다.
