3일 서울 강남구 코엑스 컨벤센터에서는 디즈니+ 오리지널 시리즈 <조명가게>의 제작발표회가 개최됐다. 이날 현장에는 김희원 감독, 강풀 작가를 비롯해 배우 주지훈, 박보영, 김설현, 엄태구, 이정은, 김민하, 박혁권, 신은수, 김선화 등이 참석해 눈길을 끌었다.
디즈니+ 오리지널 시리즈 <조명가게>는 어두운 골목 끝을 밝히는 유일한 곳 ‘조명가게’에 어딘가 수상한 비밀을 가진 손님들이 찾아오면서 벌어지는 이야기를 그린 작품이다. 특히 지난해 전 세계적으로 뜨거운 신드롬을 일으킨 <무빙>의 뒤를 이을 디즈니+ 최고의 기대작으로 주목받고 있으며, 강풀 작가의 두 번째 각본 집필작으로 기대를 모으고 있다.

이날 김희원 감독은 첫 시리즈 연출작 <조명가게>를 준비하며 고민한 부분에 대해 “정말 고민을 많이 했다. 가장 고민된 부분은 <조명가게>를 보는 분들이 어떻게하면 더욱 신선할까, 이야기의 정서를 받아들일까 등에 대한 부분이었다”고 말했고, 강풀 작가는 시리즈 <조명가게>가 원작과 달라진 지점에 대해 “<조명가게>는 많은 인물들이 나오는데, 원작보다 인물들에 파고 들었고, 관계를 더욱 잘 그려내고 싶었다. 배우들, 감독님, 스태프들 덕분에 제가 표현하지 못한 부분들이 입체적으로 그려졌다. 원작보다 재밌는 <조명가게>가 될 것이라 자신한다”고 밝혔다.

이에 주지훈은 “저는 (김희원 감독님에게 전화를) 한 통도 받지 못했다”고, 이정은은 “저는 제가 전화를 했던 것 같다”고 말해 웃음을 자아냈다. 김민하는 “감독님이 100% 저를 믿어줘서 자신감이 생겼다. 재밌게 하고 싶은 것들을 다 했고, 다 하게 해줬다. 저도 전화와 문자를 몇 번 받은 적이 있는데, 정말 따뜻했다. 날씨에 대한 부분도 챙겨줬고, 그러다보니 집에 가는 길이 따뜻했고 뿌듯했다”고, 엄태구는 “저도 받았다”며부끄러움을 드러내 웃음을 줬다.
김희원 감독은 <조명가게> 원작과의 싱크로율에 대해 “저는 제가 객관적이지 못할 것 같다. 모든 장면이 싱크로율이 높다고 생각한다”고, 강풀 작가는 “싱크로율이 안맞다. 일단 캐릭터와 배우들의 등신이 안맞는다”면서 “저는 <조명가게>를 봤는데, 8회 중간 정도에 있는 장면이 가장 화룡정점이지 않을까 싶다”고 말했다.

<조명가게> 속 골목길을 재현하기 위해 노력한 부분을 묻자 김희원 감독은 “리얼과 판타지 가운데를 그 중심을 어떻게 잡을까를 가장 고민했다. 마을 전체를 디자인해 마을 전체를 만들고 싶었다. 시뮬레이션 CG로 만든 뒤 직접 체크한 뒤 <조명가게> 속 배경이되는 마을 전체를 직접 만들었다. 저 역시 현장에서 깜짝 놀랐던 것 같다”고, 박혁권은 “신기했다. ‘오오’하면서 구경했던 것 같다”고, 김선화는 “테스트 촬영을 하면서 비슷한 느낌의 골목을 갔었는데, 사람이 살지 않는 골목으로 스산한 느낌이 있었다. 그런데 실제로 스사한 골목을 직접 만들어내 놀라웠다”고, 신은수는 “극중 저는 직접 그 골목길을 계속 걷는데, 골목길 초입에 서 있으면 진짜 길다보니 스산하고 무서웠다. 질감과 모든 것들이 <조명가게> 속 장면과 똑같아서 생동감과 현실감이 넘치는 공간이었”고 밝혔다.
