브레이크뉴스 임국정 기자 = 여당인 국민의힘이 더불어민주당이 추진한 '해병대 채상병 순직 사건 국정조사'에 참여하기로 했다.
추경호 국민의힘 원내대표는 3일 오전 국회에서 열린 당 원내대책회의에 참석해 "국민의힘은 2023년 7월 우리 곁을 떠난 채상병 순직 사건의 진상 규명을 위한 국정조사에 참여하기로 결정했다"라고 밝혔다.
앞서 국민의힘은 전날 '순직 해병 수사 방해 및 사건 은폐 등의 진상 규명을 위한 국정조사특별위원회' 위원(7인) 명단을 국회에 제출했다. 유상범 국회 법제사법위원회 국민의힘 간사가 국조특위 간사를 맡고, 송석준·장동혁·유용원·곽규택·주진우·박준태 의원이 참여한다.
추 원내대표는 "민주당이 채상병 사건 국정조사를 진행하는 데에는 정쟁에 악용하기 위한 목적이 다분하다"라면서도 "민주당의 국정조사 단독 진행은 또 다른 기형적인 의회주의 파괴의 결과를 낳을 수 있으며, 이 사건을 정권 퇴진 여론전에 이용하기 위해 진상 규명의 본질을 왜곡할 우려가 있다는 많은 분들의 의견에 따라 국정조사에 참여하기로 했다"라고 설명했다.
이어 "국민의힘은 채상병 순직 사건의 철저한 진상 규명을 위한 국회 차원의 노력에 앞장서겠다"라며 "채상병 순직 사건과 관련된 여러 사실 왜곡과 거짓 선동의 문제점을 국정조사를 통해 낱낱이 밝히고 국민께 알려드리도록 노력하겠다"라고 말했다.
