28일 에코프로에 따르면 2019년부터 시작한 '지역사회공헌 인정제(CSR in the Community)'는 비영리단체와 파트너십을 맺고 지역사회공헌 활동을 펼친 기업과 기관을 발굴해 그 공로를 인정해주는 제도다.
에코프로는 사랑의열매 사회복지공동모금회, 대한적십자사, 굿네이버스, 초록우산 등 사회복지단체와 충청북도, 경상북도, 청주시, 포항시 등 지방자치단체, 공공기관 등과 협력해 여러 지역사회공헌 활동을 펼쳐온 공로를 인정받았다.
에코프로는 지난 5월 어린이날을 맞아 청주 지역 어린이 등 6000여 명이 참여한 환경 축제 '제3회 에코그린데이'도 개최한 바 있다. 에코그린데이는 지역을 대표하는 환경, 가족 축제로 자리잡았다.
지역 내 저소득 출산가정에게 육아용품을 지원하는 '마더박스 전달 캠페인'도 꾸준히 진행하고 있다. 지난 2020년부터 올해까지 5년 동안 총 1146가구, 약 2억8500만 원어치의 물품을 지원했다.
또한 에코프로는 장애인에 친화적인 문화를 조성하고 지역사회 장애인들의 사회활동을 지원하기 위해 지난 2019년 장애인 스포츠단인 ‘온누리스포츠단’을 창단해 6년째 운영 중이다.
온누리스포츠단 소속 선수 총 52명은 지난 10월에 열린 제44회 장애인전국체육대회에 참여해 금메달 8개 등 총 46개의 메달을 획득하는 쾌거를 이루기도 했다.
에코프로는 충북 오창에 본사를 두고, 경북 포항에 대규모 이차전지 소재 생산거점을 구축하는 등 지역 균형 발전에 기여한 공로를 인정받아 지난 7일에는 지방시대위원회의 지역 균형 발전 사업 우수사례 기업으로 선정돼 특별공로상을 수상하기도 했다.
에코프로 관계자는 "6년 연속으로 지역사회공헌 인정기업이 되어 영광스럽다"며 "지역을 토대로 대기업으로 성장한 에코프로는 '기업시민'의 일원으로 앞으로도 지역사회 공헌을 위한 다양한 활동을 펼쳐 나갈 예정"이라고 소감을 밝혔다.
