이 대표는 이날 국회에서 열린 당 최고위원회의에 참석해 "경제가 경기 순환 차원에서 나빠지는 수준을 벗어나 경제의 기본 펀더멘탈, 토대가 무너지고 있다. 그중에 하나가 주식 시장이 망가지고 있는 것"이라며 "주식 시장이 망가지는 원인은 한 4가지 정도로 분명하다. 다 정부 탓이다. 명백하다"라고 밝혔다.

이 대표는 "야당 차원에서라도 할 수 있는 일을 하겠다"라며 "주식 시장에서, 자본 시장에서 경영 지배권 남용을 근본적으로 막기 위해 이사회 충실 의무 대상을 주주로까지 확대하는 상법 개정, 또 주주들의 권익을 보호하는 각종 입법을 반드시 이번 정기국회 내에 해내겠다"라고 말했다.
그러면서 "경제가 너무 어렵고 민생의 핵심은 경제인데 정부가 경제 정책, 산업 정책에 대해 근본적인 제고를 해 주시도록 다시 한번 촉구한다"라고 덧붙였다.
