트럼프 미 대통령 당선자는 지난 11월 17일 그의 페이스북 계정에 ‘그들은 그가 끝났다고 말했다(They said he was done forever)’는 짧은 영상을 올리면서, ‘자신의 정적들은 그가 끝났다고 말했지만, 그는 되돌아왔다’고 대선전쟁의 승리를 만끽했다. 트럼프는 총알이 귀를 스쳐갈 정도로 미국을 지배하는 좌파세력으로부터 위협을 받았지만, 기적으로 살아남고 대통령이 됐다. 그래서 트럼프의 생존과 복귀를 두고 ‘신의 섭리(providential intervention or divine hand)’를 들먹이는 평론들이 매우 자연스럽다. 어쩌면 일론 머스크가 말한 것처럼, ‘지구상에서 둘도 없는 기회의 나라’ 미국에서만 가능한 정치적 회생이고 기적적 장면인지도 모른다. 미국의 공화당은 물론이고 민주당도 트럼프 수혜자들이다. 전 세계도 미국의 민주적 선거 드라마를 보면서, 타산지석의 교훈과 흥분을 누렸다.

트럼프를 비롯하여, 많은 정치인이나 지식인들은 미국을 ‘기울어 쇠락하는 나라(USA in decline)’라고 평가했다. 미국은 사실 국가부채, 생산능력, 사회치안, 민생곤경, 국경해체, 전쟁사업, 혈세낭비 등으로 트럼프 대통령이 연설 때마다 경고했던 ‘규모가 큰 베네수엘라’가 되어가고 있었다. 제국의 몰락을 증명하는 듯한 사법기관의 무기화, 언론기관의 사기선동, 전체주의적 검열강화, 민주주의 쇠퇴를 좌경적 부패정권이 연출하고 있었다. 바나나 공화국이란 비판이 크게 무리가 아니었다. 국경을 허물어 불법침입자들을 우대하는 미친 짓을 바이든 정권은 했고, 워낙 ‘깨몽문화(PC, DIE, Cancel Culture)’가 번성하여 남녀구별이 혼란될 지경에 이르렀다. 한 마디로, 망국의 지랄발광을 바이든 정권 하에서 미국은 하고 있었다.
오바마 정권의 노선과 기조를 유지한 바이든 정권은 미국을 존경받지 못하게 만들었다. 바이든 미 대통령은 자신의 임기 중에 45%를 휴가로 보냈으며, 이번 주에 미국이 전쟁비용과 전쟁무기를 줘서 계속되는 우크라이나-러시아 전쟁이 러시아의 반격으로 격화되는 시기에도 부통령 해리스는 하와이로 여행이나 가고 바이든은 백악관을 비웠다고 트럼프 지지매체들은 비판하고 있다. 역대 바이든 정권보다 더 무능하고 무책임한 정권을 보기 힘들 정도로, 미국의 치안과 국방 기강은 자멸하는 제국을 연상시켰다. 미국의 주류언론들이 사실상 치매노인을 대통령으로 삼아, 꼭두각시놀음을 하고 있는 것을 전 세계가 조롱하는데, 미국의 부패한 기득세력(Establishment)만 모른 척하면서, 국민혈세를 착취하는 망국놀음을 했다.
이런 바이든 정권의 무능하고 무책임한 국정운영을 트럼프 대통령과 그의 지지자들은 미국의 자멸로 해석해서 발을 동동 구르면서 바꾸자고 성조기 집회(MAGA Rally)를 해왔다. 트럼프 대통령의 계산에 의해면, 이 구국의 성조기집회를 약 900번이나 했다고 한다. 기득세력과 주류언론이 전파를 장악하여 망국의 선동굿판을 벌일 때에, 트럼프와 미국 보수세력은 SNS에 기대어 구국의 아스팔트 전쟁을 하고 있었던 것이다. 이런 정치·문화·가치전쟁 과정에서 미국의 정보와 정서가 전체주의적으로 감시·통제되는 것을 막기 위해 일론 머스크는 450억 달러를 들여서 트위터(X)를 장악한 뒤에 기성주류언론에 대적하는 정보유통의 바탕(플랫폼)을 제공했다. 이번 미국 대선은 민주당을 미는 주류언론과 트럼프를 미는 비주류 언론의 대결이기도 했다.
주류언론을 장악한 민주당은 자신들만이 가두리 되어 통하는 망상적 가짜뉴스를 즐기면서 미국의 군중들에게 허위의식을 강요했다. 국경문제, 전쟁문제, 민생문제, 환경문제, 낙태문제 등에서 주류언론을 완전히 장악한 민주당은 대중들과 소통이 되지 않는 그들만의 불통밀어를 마치 엘리트의 징표나 되는 듯이 즐겼다. 서민대중을 중시한다는 민주당은 사실상 저변 대중들과 단절된 오만하고 폐쇄적인 허위의식에 갇힌 엘리트집단이었다. 이를 CNN의 애비 필립(Abby Phillip)은 “엘리트들은 점점 더 자신들끼리만 통하는 이야기를 했다”고 패배한 민주당의 제 잘난 맛에 빠져 있는 헛 똑똑이들을 맹비판했다. 민주당의 미성숙한 지성과 양심이 패전의 요인이었다.
이번 대선을 통해 미국사회 전반에서 지식과 정보의 타락이 확인됐다. 소위 동서부 엘리트 대학들이 모인 곳에 무식하고 무능하고 무책임한 바보들이 살고 있음이 선거를 통해 드러났다. 트럼프의 실용주의적 엘리트 관점이 선거를 통해 확인된 셈이다. 트럼프 대통령은 유세 중에 수시로 성조기집회에 나온 애국자들은 ‘슈퍼 엘리트’로 불렀는데, 일리가 있다. 유토피안적 망상에 찌든 좌익세력이 미국을 해괴한 거짓과 불의의 구렁텅이로 몰아가는 것을 막기 위해서 미국의 저변 민중들이 성조기혁명을 성공시켜서, 해리스를 지지한 23명의 노벨경제학상 수상자나 유명한 선거전문가나 할리우드의 유명인사들을 ‘배운 무식자’로 확인사살한 대선이었다. 탁상머리에서 알량한 명분을 팔아먹던 좌파학자들은 이번에 신종 엘리트인 트럭운전수나 국경수비대의 철퇴를 맞은 것이다.
민주당이 깔고 있던 서민계층이나 소수민족 등 사회적 소수자들도 대거 공화당 쪽으로 이동했다. 미국의 50개 중에 49개 주에서 공화당으로 이동한 유권자가 많았고, 100년 만에 이룩한 공화당의 선거승리란 평가가 나오는 것도 이해가 된다. 트럼프를 ‘제2의 워싱턴’이라면서 트럼프가 세계에 초래한 전반적 효과를 주목한 실베스터 스탤론의 당선축사는 아첨으로만 치부할 수 없다. 트럼프 각성효과(Awakening Effect)는 깨몽(Woke)에 취한 미국사회에는 물론, 좌경세력의 아지트가 돼버린 미국 민주당과 유럽과, 그리고 좌경화 수렁에 빠진 한국에도 크게 영향을 미칠 것이다. 미국의 민주당은 이번 대선 패배를 통해 언론만 장악해서 대중들을 우중으로 만드는 세뇌선동을 포기해야 할 것이다. 그렇지 않으면 앞으로도 깨인 미국인들의 지지를 확보하기 힘들 것이다.
그런 점에서 이번에 미국 민주당의 미성숙한 정치적 낭만주의를 박살낸 트럼프 대통령은 공화당에는 물론이고 민주당에도 장기적으로 축복이 될 것이다. 언제까지 소수민족과 성별적 혹은 성적 소수자들을 가두리해서 백인남성을 공격하는 역성차별과 역인종차별을 즐길 수는 없다. 트럼프와 머스크, 비벡, 백스 등 트럼프 팀은 지금 선거를 통해 미국사회의 거짓과 역차별을 뒤엎는 혁명을 하고 있고, 이 혁신의 효과를 민주당도 수혜자가 될 것이다. 미국사회를 망상과 자멸로 이끌던 민주당의 지식적 우상숭배를 트럼프 일당이 타파해준 것을 민주당도 감사해야 할 것이다. 잘못 국민을 이끄는 집권세력에 대한 심판은 민주주의의 최고 순기능이고, 이런 민주주의가 이번에 미국에서 가장 멋있게 연출된 것이다. 암살을 피하게 트럼프를 감싼 역사 신의 손은 민주당도 보듬어준 것이다.
미국뿐만 아니라, 한국도 트럼프 대선승리가 가져온 긍정적 효과를 누릴 분석과 대응을 해야 할 것이다. 조선•중앙일보 식의 트럼프 혐오에 빠진 시각과 논조는 백해무익하다. 대중투표를 2.5%정도 공화당이 이긴 대승에, 하원·상원·정부·대법원까지 장악한 트럼프는 황제적 권력(mandate)을 국민들로부터 부여받았다. 트럼프·머스크·밴스 등이 이끄는 공화당 정부는 매우 젊고 힘찬 혁명정부로 규정해야 한다. 심하게 말해서, 군사정권의 ‘국보위’와 같은 수준의 혁명적 변화를 할 수 있는 여건과 상황이 미국에서 전개되고 있다. 트럼프 아들이 대선 전에 순복음교회 등을 방문했을 때에 ‘소 닭 쳐다보듯 한’ 윤석열 대통령은 국제감각이 낙제점이다. 윤석열 대통령은 골프를 연습한다고 거짓말하지 말고, 트럼프의 치열한 자유 수호 투쟁정신을 배워야 한다.
