윤석열 대통령과 그의 정부가 지금 겪고 있는 곤경의 최대 원인은, 총선참패 후의 가파른 대치정국에서 야권이 전력을 집중하여 한 공격이다. 하지만 그에 못지않게 큰 원인이 또 하나 있다. 그것은 심각한 내부 분열이고, 당정불화이다. 한동훈 국민의 힘 대표가 줄기차게 핵심 역할을 수행해 왔다.
그런데 뜻밖에 내부분열이 수습될 가능성이 짙어졌다. 이제 주류언론에서도 언급하기 시작한 ‘국민의 힘 당원게시판의 윤 대통령 내외 모멸사건' 때문이다. 이 사건에서 한 대표를 비롯한 그의 직계가족 그리고 장인을 비롯한 처족까지 가담한 것으로 보인다. 직접 그런 글들을 쓴 것인지 아니면 명의를 빌려준 것인지는 아직 불명확하나, 이것도 조만간 밝혀질 것이다.
한 대표는 갑자기 종전의 자세를 변경하여 허리를 확 숙였다. 그러나 여기서 그치지 않을 것이다. 해방 후 정치지도자급에 있는 사람들이 저지른 잘못된 행위 중에서 가장 저질의 비열한 행태인 이상 그의 정치생명 자체를 위협하리라 본다.
내가 그의 비대위원장 시절 평하였듯이, 그는 현대의 중국을 세운 모택동의 밑에서 정치적 성장을 하였으나 모택동을 제거하는 궁정쿠데타를 획책하여 실패한 임표와 비슷하다. 둘 다 재능은 뛰어나다. 그리고 내성적이면서 섬약한 기질과 빈약한 체형 등에서 판박이다. 이제 한 대표의 말로도 임표의 뒤를 따르는 듯이 보인다.
