여수·순천 10·19평화문학상은 여수·순천 10·19 사건의 아픔을 문학작품으로 승화하고, 여순사건의 국민적 공감대 형성과 전국화에 기여하기 위해 지난 2023년 전남도 조례에 근거해 제정됐다. 여순사건을 주제로 하는 문학상은 지난 2022년부터 2023년까지 여수시와 순천시에서 따로 실시했으나, 상의 훈격을 높이고 유족의 화합 및 여순사건 전국적 공감대 확산에 힘쓰기 위해 올해부터 도에서 통합 운영하게 됐다.
지난 8월까지 현상 공모해 시·소설 분야 저명한 전문가로 구성된 심사위원회에서 예심과 본심을 거쳐, 운영위원회의 최종 심의·의결 결과 시 부문 최우수 1명과 우수 2명, 소설 부문 최우수 1명과 우수 2명, 총 6명을 선정했다.
