지금 모든 매체에 명태균과 윤석열·김건희를 초집중 시키면서 나라 전체가 시끄럽다. 아마도 대통령과 영부인이 연루되어 있다 보니 더 시끄럽다. 물 만난 물고기처럼 일반 야당을 지지하는 언론 매체에선 윤석열 대통령 탄핵을 외치고 있고, 대통령과 보수를 지지하는 언론 매체에선 마지못해 보도는 하되 조금 신중한 모습을 보인다. 모두 이야기의 초점은 명태균과 윤석열·김건희에 맞춰져있다.
여기서 중요한 것을 놓치고 있는 것이 하나있다. 그것은 이 사건을 터트린 이준석 의원으로, 이준석은 무엇을 얻고 싶어 기자에게 취재 미끼를 던졌을까? 라는 의문에서 이준석의 본심을 보복, 통합, 개혁신당 운영자금, 위기로 나누어 파헤쳐보자.
첫째, 이준석은 윤석열(친윤·윤핵관)과의 권력 투쟁에서 밀려 그들을 보복·제거하고자 명태균을 이용하여 차도살인(借刀殺人)하려 했을 것이다. 제20대 대통령선거 경선 전부터 이준석과 윤핵관은 피터지는 싸움을 진행하고 있었다. 이준석은 한 유투브 매체에서 윤석열의 머리 흔들기 습관을 두고 ‘도리도리’라고 비아냥 거렸다. 경선 전부터 윤석열을 중심으로 한 윤핵관들과의 마찰로 인해 마음고생을 한 이준석은 괴로웠다. 우여곡절 끝에 윤의 대통령 당선에 일조했지만, 토사구팽 당한 이준석은 내쫓기듯 국민의힘을 탈당해야만 했고, 개혁신당을 창당하여 국회의원이 되었다. 이제 국회의원이 되었으니 대통령과 윤핵관을 몰아내고 싶어 할 것이다. 이런 결심을 가진 것은 아마 지난 총선 전 3월 1일, 지리산 칠불사에서 명태균과 김영선 의원(경남 창원시의창구), 그리고 김건희 여사의 관계를 최종적으로 확인한 반면, 명과 김은 여당발 거사계획에 이준석을 동원하려했던 것이 오히려 명태균은 이준석의 꾀에 넘어간 꼴이 되어버렸다. 만약, 이준석이 명태균-김건희의 관계를 폭로하면 윤핵관과 검사들이 어떻게 해서든 이준석을 총선에서 낙선시키려 온갖 수단과 방법을 동원할 수 있기에 이준석은 조심스럽게 행동할 수밖에 없었을 것이다.
둘째, 세력이 다소 약한 한동훈과 결탁하여 보수 대통합을 원한다. 이준석은 윤대통령과 윤핵관에 대한 불만으로 당을 탈당했고, 총선을 위한 비상대책위원장으로 윤석열 라인으로 여겼던 법무부장관인 한동훈을 깜짝 발탁하였다. 그런데 한동훈은 그동안 윤석열의 호피(虎皮)를 온 몸에 감쌋지만 발톱만은 한동훈 자신의 것이었음을 총선을 치르면서 서서히 본색을 드러냈다. 선거를 치러본 사람은 이번 총선은 여당이 참패할 것을 2023년 10월 서울강서구청장보궐선거에서 분명히 알고 있었다. 만약, 한동훈이 대통령(윤핵관)과 같은 배를 탔다면 동반 침몰했을 것인데, 윤의 호피를 벗어던지고 자신의 발톱과 색이 다른 호피를 드러내면서 당원으로부터 의외의 신임을 받아 6월에 당 대표로 선출되기 까지 했다. 이준석이 한동훈의 발톱과 외피(外皮)를 본 것이다. 한동훈과 결탁을 하면 자신이 내세웠던 당의 ‘개혁’이 어느 정도 완성될 수 있기 때문에 한동훈을 잡고 싶어 했을 것이다. 지금까지 이준석은 한동훈을 비난하는 것을 볼 수 없었고, 오히려 동변상련의 마음으로 정치적 동지로 여겼다.
셋째, 개혁신당 운영자금이 부족할 수 있다. 정당을 꾸려가는 것은 많은 비용이 든다. 이번 총선 후 4석을 확보한 개혁신당은 2분기 3억2973만3000원의 경상보조금을 지급받았다. 이런 국고 보조금의 용도는 인건비, 사무용품비, 사무소 설치운용비, 공공요금, 정책개발비, 당원 교육비, 조직활동비, 선전비, 선거관계비용이며, 경상보조금의 경우에는 정책개발비에 30%, 지방당 지원에 10%, 여성정치발전에 10% 이상 사용해야 한다. 정당 운영에 많은 비용이 들어가는 만큼 살림살이가 빠듯할 수밖에 없다.
넷째, 소수당으로 전락했고, 이준석이라는 이름이 잊혀 가고 있는 위기감에서 돌파구가 필요했다. 원내교섭단체를 꾸리지 못한 개혁신당의 이준석 의원은 언론과 미디어에 노출횟수가 줄어들 수밖에 없다. 그만큼 관종적 성격을 가진 이준석은 위기감이 들 수밖에 없다. 필자가 2024년 1월 26일 기고한 "총선과 이준석의 삼분지계 전략"을 참고하면 지금의 이준석을 이해할 수 있다. 필자는 이준석이 늦어도 47세 되는 2032년에 대선 후보로 나올 것을 예상했는데, 이번 명태균 발 사태에서 김종인 전 총괄선거대책위원장은 이준석을 대통령으로 만들려고 했다는 것을 통화 녹음에서 확인할 수 있었다. 즉, 그는 대통령이 되고 싶은 관종적 정치인으로 사욕을 가진 MZ세대의 30대 정치인인 것이다.
이를 종합하면, 이준석은 그가 말한 개혁은 윤석열과 윤핵관을 명태균의 칼로 축출하는 것이고, 2년 후 지방선거 승리를 핑계로 소수 정예부대인 개혁신당을 이끌고 국민의힘과 합당하여 새로운 정당을 창당할 계획으로 이번 난을 촉발시킨 것으로 보인다. 즉, 이준석은 자신만의 권력세계를 구축하고자 하는 욕심 많은 MZ세대 정치인이다. 한동훈은 자칫 이준석의 전략에 휘말려 지렛대 역할만 하는 조력자 신세로 전락할 수 있다.
