포항 국제음악제가 세계적 음악축제로 거듭 태어난다. 포항 국제음악제측은 최근 발표한 보도자료에서 “2021년 시작해 올해로 4회째를 맞는 '포항 음악제'가 '포항 국제음악제'로 명칭을 바꾸고 세계적인 음악 축제로 발돋움하기 위한 첫발을 내디딘다. 올해 포항국제음악제는 다음 달 1∼8일까지 포항문화예술회관 등에서 열린다”고 알렸다.
이 자료에 따르면 10월28일, 제1회 포항 음악축제 때부터 예술감독을 맡아 온 첼리스트 박유신은 "지난 3번의 축제에 다양한 해외 아티스트들이 참여하고도 '국제'라는 타이틀이 붙지 않아 축제의 컨셉이 명확하지 않다는 지적이 있었다"면서 "새로운 명칭과 함께 포항국제음악제가 세계적인 음악 축제로 거듭 나겠다"고 밝혔다. 아래는 이 보도자료의 주요 내용이다.
포항 출신인 박유신은 국제 음악축제에 남다른 자부심을 드러냈다. 그는 "산업도시라는 이미지 때문에 포항을 딱딱한 이미지로만 생각할 수도 있겠지만, 다양한 문화축제가 있는 문화의 도시"라면서 "도서관과 미술관 등 음악과 어울리는 장소도 많고, 무엇보다 맛있는 음식이 많은 곳"이라고 소개했다.
새로운 명칭에 맞게 올해 축제에는 많은 해외 연주자들이 참여한다. 가장 기대되는 무대는 프랑스 남성 현악사중주팀 아로드 콰르텟이다. 바이올리니스트 조르당 빅토리아와 알렉상드르 뷔, 비올리스트 탕기 파리소, 첼리스트 제레미 가르바르그로 구성된 세계적인 현악사중주팀이다.
아로드 콰르텟은 11월 5일과 6일 무대에 올라 관객에게 현악사중주의 아름다운 선율을 선사할 예정이다. 5일에는 하이든의 '현악 사중주 6번'과 슈만의 '현악 사중주 3번', 드뷔시의 '현악 사중주'를 연주한다. 11월6일에는 바이올리니스트 김재영 등 국내외 연주자들과 함께 쇼팽의 '피아노 트리오', 아렌스키의 '피아노 오중주 D장조' 등을 들려준다.
국제콩쿠르에서 좋은 성적을 거둔 한국 스타 음악가들도 대거 무대에 오른다. 우선 지난해 한국인 최초로 '카라얀 젊은 지휘자상'을 받은 지휘자 윤한결이 개막공연 포디움에 선다.
윤한결은 포항 페스티벌 오케스트라를 이끌고 코르사코프의 '셰에라자드'와 멘델스존의 '고요한 바다와 즐거운 항해'를 선보인다. 또 플루티스트 김유빈과 함께 라이네케의 '플루트 협주곡'도 연주할 예정이다.
윤한결과 김유빈의 개막공연 외에도 11월3일 피아니스트 백혜선의 무대와 11월7일 피아니스트 선우예권의 무대도 기대를 모으고 있다. 또 아카펠라 그룹 메이트리가 출연하는 11월8일 폐막공연에서도 다른 음악 축제에선 경험할 수 없었던 색다른 무대가 예상된다.

The Pohang International Music Festival is reborn as a world-class music festival. In a recent press release, the Pohang International Music Festival announced, “The Pohang Music Festival, which began in 2021 and is now in its fourth year, has changed its name to the Pohang International Music Festival and is taking its first step toward becoming a world-class music festival. This year’s Pohang International Music Festival will be held at the Pohang Culture and Arts Center from the 1st to the 8th of next month.”

Many foreign performers will participate in this year’s festival, in line with the new name. The most anticipated performance will be by the French male string quartet, the Arode Quartet. It is a world-class string quartet composed of violinists Jordan Victoria and Alexandre Bu, violist Tanguy Parisot, and cellist Jeremy Garbargue.
The Arode Quartet will perform on November 5th and 6th to present the audience with the beautiful melodies of string quartets. On the 5th, they will perform Haydn’s String Quartet No. 6, Schumann’s String Quartet No. 3, and Debussy’s String Quartet. On November 6, violinist Kim Jae-young and other domestic and international performers will perform Chopin's 'Piano Trio' and Arensky's 'Piano Quintet in D Major'.
A number of Korean star musicians who have performed well in international competitions will also take the stage. First, conductor Yoon Han-gyeol, who was the first Korean to receive the 'Karajan Young Conductor Award' last year, will stand on the podium for the opening performance.
Yoon Han-gyeol will lead the Pohang Festival Orchestra to perform Korsakov's 'Scheherazade' and Mendelssohn's 'Calm Sea and Merry Voyage'. He will also perform Reinecke's 'Flute Concerto' with flautist Kim Yu-bin.
In addition to the opening performances by Yoon Han-gyeol and Kim Yu-bin, pianist Baek Hye-seon's stage on November 3 and pianist Sunwoo Ye-kwon's stage on November 7 are also highly anticipated. The closing performance on the 8th, featuring the a cappella group Matryoshka, is expected to be a unique stage that cannot be experienced at other music festivals.
