시에 따르면 19일 개막식 당일에는 7만 5천여 명이 방문하여 문경새재 방문객 역대 최다를 기록했고, 문경새재의 일부 식당은 준비한 식재료를 모두 소진하여 영업을 조기에 마감하는 진풍경이 벌어졌다.
축제 개막일부터 수많은 관광객이 몰렸음에도 불구하고, 한 건의 안전사고도 없이 순조롭게 진행됐다.
이날 개막식에는 이찬원, 박서진, 전유진 등 인기가수의 축하공연으로 막을 올렸고, 둘째 날은 난타, 색소폰, 하모니카, 댄스 등 지역 주민의 재능기부로 꾸며지는 자유 공연 프로그램과 애플키즈댄스 페스티벌이 진행되어 큰 인기를 얻었다.
신현국 문경시장은 “문경사과축제는 27일까지 진행되니 많은 관심 부탁드리고, 알록달록 단풍이 수놓은 문경새재를 걸으며 검붉은 문경감홍사과의 맛에 흠뻑 빠져보시길 바란다”고 말했다.
한편 오는 24일 야외공연장에서는 문경감홍사과를 홍보하기 위한 애플데이 행사가 열리며, 문경관광호텔에서는 문경사과산업의 발전 방향을 논의하는 문경사과 심포지엄이 개최되고, 26일에는 박지현, 마이진, 윤윤서 등이 출연하는 토요 트롯 in 문경 공연이 펼쳐질 예정이다.
