JMS Church Council Representative Kwak Dong-won Releases Statement “Rev. Jeong Myeong-seok ‘Not Guilty Verdict’”
JMS Church Council Representative Kwak Dong-won “Rev. Jeong Myeong-seok ‘Declares Conscience’ for Former Church Members Who Participated in Planned Prosecution”
- Reporter Park Jeong-dae
On September 1, the Christian Gospel Mission Church Council reported in a press release that “Christian Gospel Mission (JMS) Church Council Representative Kwak Dong-won released a statement at the Church Council office on the 1st, urging a not-guilty verdict while presenting evidence supporting the innocence of Pastor Jeong Myeong-seok, who is currently on appeal.”
In this statement, “While the appeal trial of Pastor Jeong Myeong-seok of the Christian Gospel Mission (commonly known as JMS) is in progress, attention is being paid to whether the 23-year sentence handed down in the first trial last year will be overturned as the only evidence submitted as evidence, a report stating that the recorded file was edited and manipulated, and evidence proving the circumstances of the planned prosecution, are being submitted to the court. The Christian Gospel Mission Lay Council (hereinafter referred to as the Council) announced a statement regarding this at noon on the 1st and called for Pastor Jeong Myeong-seok’s not guilty verdict.
In his statement, Council Representative Kwak Dong-won emphasized, “As a result of the four-stage analysis of the recording file submitted by plaintiff A by the team of Professor Bae Myeong-jin of the Korea Sound Clarification Research Institute, dozens of traces of manipulation were found, including the voice of a third party, mouse click sounds, and circuit breaker sounds.” He also emphasized, “The credible USA Forensic Institute in the U.S. also analyzed this recording file and concluded that it was not an original file recorded at the scene and that it was likely edited using a device such as a computer.”
Kwak Dong-won, the representative of the Church Council, pointed out that Pastor Jeong Myeong-seok was innocent as evidence that “former church member B revealed the contents of the KakaoTalk conversation between him and accuser A, revealing that accuser A’s sexual assault claims were false and that they planned to sue Pastor Jeong Myeong-seok for money.” He added that “anti-JMS activist Professor A submitted a notice to the court that was excessive, criticizing and threatening, and made a mockery of the judge’s inherent authority and insulting him. PD B, who was in the same boat as him, was also sent to the prosecution for violating the Special Act on Sexual Violence, and is still systematically manipulating public opinion to conceal the truth.” In his statement, Kwak Dong-won, the representative of the Church Council, urged, “If there is anyone among the former church members who wants to reveal the fact that they participated in the planned lawsuit by an anti-JMS activist through a declaration of conscience, please knock on the door with courage.”
