【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경상북도는 파리올림픽 여자 유도 57kg급 은메달과 유도 혼성단체 동메달을 획득한 허미미(21·경북체육회)선수가6일 군위군삼국유사면 집실마을을찾아 현 조부(5대조)인 허석(1857∼1920)의사 기적비를 참배했다고 밝혔다.

경북도에 따르면 이날 허미미 선수를 비롯해 박창배 경상북도 체육진흥과장, 김점두 경상북도체육회회장, 김진열 군위군수, 최규종 군위군의장, 장상열 경상북도 호국보훈재단 사무총장 등 30여 명이 참석한 가운데, 허석 의사의 독립 정신을 기리고 그 뜻을 되새겼다.
이철우 경상북도 도지사는 이날 행사에 참석하지 못한 대신 추모 화환을 보내 허석 의사에 대한 경의를 표했다.
허석 의사는 일제강점기 당시 항일 격문을 붙이다 옥고를 치렀고 1984년 대통령표창, 1991년 건국훈장 애국장에 추서된 독립운동가이다.
재일교포 3세로 2022년 할머니의 유언에 따라 한국으로 귀화한 허미미선수는 소속팀인 경북체육회에 선수 등록을 하는 과정에서 할아버지인허무부씨가 허석 의사의 증손자라는 것을 알게 됐다.
허미미 선수는 참배 후 “태극마크를 달고 올림픽 메달을 따겠다는 꿈을 이뤘다”며, “올림픽 시상대에서 애국가를 부르지 못한 게 아쉽지만 4년 뒤엔 반드시 금메달을 가지고 이곳에 다시 오겠다”는 포부를 밝혔다.
김점두 경상북도체육회장은 “허미미 선수가 프랑스에서 보여준 활약은허석 선생의 긍지를 현대에도 보여주는 것 같았다”며 “경북 체육인으로서 유도를 통해 대한민국의 위상과 명예를 드높일 수 있도록 물심양면 지원하겠다”라고 말했다.
이철우 경상북도지사는“허미미 선수가 선대의 용기와 투지를그대로 물려받은 것 같다”며, “앞으로가 더 기대되는 선수인 만큼 경상북도에서도 4년 뒤 LA 올림픽에서 더욱 선전할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고말했다.

Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province was unable to attend the event, but instead sent a wreath to pay tribute to Dr. Heo Seok.
Dr. Heo Seok was an independence activist who suffered in prison for posting an anti-Japanese slogan during the Japanese colonial period and was posthumously awarded the Presidential Citation in 1984 and the Order of Merit for National Foundation in 1991.
As a third-generation Zainichi Korean, Heo Mi-mi, who naturalized to Korea in 2022 according to her grandmother’s will, learned that her grandfather, Heo Mu-bu, was the great-grandson of Dr. Heo Seok while registering as a player with her team, the Gyeongbuk Sports Association.
After paying her respects, Heo Mi-mi said, “I have achieved my dream of wearing the Taegeuk mark and winning an Olympic medal,” and expressed her aspiration, saying, “It is regrettable that I could not sing the national anthem on the Olympic podium, but I will definitely come back here with a gold medal in four years.”
Kim Jeom-du, the chairman of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Sports Association, said, “Heo Mi-mi’s performance in France seemed to show the pride of Mr. Heo Seok even in modern times,” and added, “As a Gyeongsangbuk-do athlete, I will provide both material and spiritual support so that she can raise the status and honor of the Republic of Korea through judo.”
Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, “Heo Mi-mi seems to have inherited the courage and fighting spirit of her predecessors,” and added, “Since she is an athlete with a promising future, Gyeongsangbuk-do will actively support her so that she can do even better at the LA Olympics in four years.”
