인천시, 람사르습지인 송도갯벌 10만여 마리 물새 산다

‘송도갯벌(람사르습지) 저어새 등 이동성물새 정기조사 최종보고회’ 1년간 물새 정기조사 통해 송도갯벌 중요성 강조

(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천시가 30일 송도 G-타워 8층 회의실에서 동아시아-대양주 철새이동경로 파트너십(EAAFP) 사무국 함께 ‘송도갯벌(람사르습지) 저어새 등 이동성물새 정기조사 최종보고회’를 개최했다.


이날 보고회에는 조사 수행기관인 ‘저어새와 친구들’을 비롯해, 인천경제자유구역청, 연수구·남동구청, 국립생태원과 민관 기구 및 국제기구로 이뤄진 인천저어새공존협의체, 저어새 및 물새 보전 관련 시민단체 등 약 30여명이 참여했다.


송도갯벌은 철새서식지로서의 국제적 중요성을 인정받아 동아시아-대양주 철새이동경로 네트워크 서식지(Flyway Network Site, FNS) 및 람사르 습지로 등재돼 있다.


2019년부터는 철새이동경로 네트워크 서식지의 자매서식지 결연 프로그램을 통해 홍콩의 마이포 습지와 관계를 맺고 있다.


이러한 국제적 자매서식지 결연 아래, 시의 지원을 받고 있는 EAAFP 사무국은 조사 수행기관과 함께 송도갯벌의 생태적 중요성을 과학적으로 확인하기 위해, 2020년부터 매월 2~3회씩 송도갯벌 및 주변 지역의 집중적인 모니터링을 실시해 왔다.


모니터링 결과, 송도갯벌에는 총 91종 102,692개체 물새가 있는 것으로 확인됐으며, 물새 포함한 천연기념물 10종, 멸종위기종 15종의 새가 관측됐다.
 

해당 최종보고회에서는 정기조사 결과 보고와 함께, 매립으로 인한 물새 휴식지 손실, 무분별한 레저활동으로 검은머리물떼새 번식 방해 등 송도갯벌 조사 시 확인한 현안을 해결하기 위한 논의도 이뤄졌다.


유훈수 시 환경국장은 “올해도 송도갯벌 모니터링 추진과 동시에,  연구조사 활동들을 지원하겠다”면서 “팬더믹 상황 변화에 따라 홍콩정부 등 동아시아 여러 지역의 전문가들과의 국제교류 협력에 더욱 박차를 가해 추진해갈 예정”이라고 말했다.
 

한편, EAAFP 사무국은 2009년 송도에 유치한 국제기구로, 시는 EAAFP와 함께 송도갯벌의 중요성을 과학적으로 증명하고, 저어새 등 물새 보전을 위하여 2020년부터 연구조사 활동 및 교육, 대중인식 및 국제포럼을 진행해 오고 있다.


그 성과로는 최근 2년 동안 2회에 걸쳐 인천광역시와 홍콩특별자치구 정부가 두 도시 간 활동을 동아시아 여러 참가자들과 함께 공유했던 ‘인천-홍콩 이동성물새와 그 서식지 보호 협력 동아시아-대양주 철새이동경로 저어새 보전 국제포럼’, 2022~2021년 저어새 모니터링, 위성추적장치, 가락지 등을 통한 저어새 서식지 이용 연구,  국문, 영문 최종보고서 발간, 저어새 교구 제작, 세계의 습지 및 물새 교육자료를 목록화해 EAAFP 홈페이지에서 제공, 인천광역시를 주축으로 한 저어새 보전 협의체 활동 추진, 송도갯벌 저어새 등 이동성물새 정기조사 등이 있다.
