지난해 8월 출범한 국민의힘 중앙재해대책위원회는 코로나19 사태를 비롯한 자연재해, 화재와 산불, 각종 사고 등을 예방하고, 정부의 재난 위기 대응 시스템 점검을 위해 설립되었다.
중앙재해대책위원회 위원장을 연임하게 된 정희용 의원은 지난해 여름 장마와 집중호우, 태풍으로 전국에 피해가 속출했을 때, 중앙재해대책위원장으로서 총 8차례 봉사활동과 현장 상황을 점검했다.
또한 현장에서 주민 의견을 청취하고 문제점을 보완하기 위해 「재난 및 안전관리 기본법 개정안」, 「재해구호법 개정안」을 대표발의하며 재해대책 마련에 앞장서왔다.
정희용 의원은 “최근 인명·재산 피해를 입은 지역을 방문해 현장을 살펴보고 담당 공무원들과 후속대책을 논의했으며, 국회 예결특위 회의에서 국무총리에게 예산지원을 촉구한 바 있다”면서, “중앙재해대책위원장이라는 국민의 생명과 안전을 책임지는 막중한 자리에 연임된 만큼, 국회와 당 차원에서 제도적 미비점과 개선방안 등을 지속적으로 살펴보겠다”고 밝혔다.
