브레이크뉴스 박동제 기자= 그룹 아이콘(iKON) 멤버 바비가 솔로 정규 2집 ‘LUCKY MAN’으로 돌아온다. 바비는 특유의 강렬하면서도 거침없는 래핑을 바탕으로 확장된 음악적 스펙트럼을 입증했다.
바비는 25일 솔로 정규 2집 ‘LUCKY MAN’ 발매 기념 온라인 쇼케이스를 개최했다. 이번 행사는 코로나19(신종 코로나바이러스 감염증)의 확산 방지 및 예방 차원, 그리고 사회적 거리두기의 일환으로 온라인 생중계로 진행됐다. 이날 쇼케이스는 방송인 김일중이 진행을 맡아 눈길을 끌었다.
약 3년 4개월 만에 솔로 아티스트로 돌아온 바비의 솔로 정규 2집 ‘LUCKY MAN’에는 타이틀곡 ‘야 우냐 (U MAD)’를 비롯해 ‘RocKstaR’, ‘NO TIME’, ‘BrEAk It DoWn’, ‘새벽에 (In THE DaRk)’, ‘라일락 (LiLaC)’, ‘Ur SOUL Ur BodY (feat. DK)’, ‘우아해 (GOrGeOuS)’, ‘LiAr’, ‘RaiNinG (feat. JU-NE)’, ‘내려놔 (Let iT Go)’, ‘DeViL’ 등 다채로운 곡들 담겨 있다. 바비는 정규 2집에 수록된 트랙 전곡 작사·작곡에 참여했다.
특히 바비의 이번 타이틀곡 ‘야 우냐 (U MAD)’는 누구나 노래를 들었을 때 넘치는 에너지를 받을 수 있기를 기대하며 쓴 곡이다. 익숙한 멜로디의 놀림을 활용한 중독성 있는 후렴이 인상적이다.
이날 바비는 솔로 정규 2집 ‘LUCKY MAN’으로 돌아온 소감을 묻자 “새로운 음악을 선보일 수 있어 무척 기쁘고 설렌다. 꾸준히 곡 작업도 해왔고, 그런 곡들이 소중한 앨범에 실릴 수 있게 돼 기분이 좋다. 보여드릴 수 있다는 것 자체로 기분이 좋다”고 밝혔다.
‘LUCKY MAN’을 위해 가장 중점을 둔 부분 관련해 “곡 작업은 꾸준히 열심히 하고 있었다. 어떤 앨범을 만들지, 어떤 스토리를 만들지 구상을 하면서 작업해놨던 곡들 중 알맞은 곡들을 선정하고 새로 곡을 쓰기도 했다”며 “가장 중요하게 생각한 건 공감이 가는 스토리다. 전곡을 들었을 때 다음 이야기가 궁금해지고 기다려지는 느낌으 주기 위해 트랙리스트 순서부터 가사 등에 많은 신경을 썼다”고 전했다.
‘LUCKY MAN’이라는 앨범명을 짓게 된 이유에 대해 “앨범 안에 많은 감정들이 묻어 있다. 슬픔, 기쁨 등 20대인 제가 느낄 수 있는 많은 감정들이 ‘LUCKY’라고 생각해 앨범명을 ‘LUCKY MAN’이라는 제목으로 짓게 됐다. 제 인생에서 가장 럭키한 순간? 저희 부모님의 아들로 태어난 것이 가장 럭키한 일 아닐까 생각한다”고 말했다.

이번 ‘LUCKY MAN’을 통해 어떤 새로운 시도와 숨은 매력을 담았냐는 질문에 “지난 앨범 ‘LOVE AND FALL’이 매우 부드러웠다면, ‘LUCKY MAN’으로는 다양한 스펙트럼, 감정을 보여드리고 싶었다. 강력하고 강한 모습도 있지만, 전 앨범보다 더 부드러운 모습도 볼 수 있을 것이라 생각한다. 더 강하고 더 부드러운 다양한 모습을 보여드리기 위해 노력했다”고 답했다.
‘LUCKY MAN’ 트랙리스트를 관통하는 주제에 대해 “청년들이 살면서 느낄 수 있는 희노애락을 표현하고자 했다. 누군가와 사랑에 빠지고, 이별 후 고통스러워하는, 슬픔을 딛고 일어나는 등 현실에서 있을법한 스토리를 담아내려고 했다”며 “‘LUCKY MAN’에는 총 5번의 감정 변화가 있는데, 4번의 ‘SKIT’을 넣은 이유는 드라마 또는 영화의 내레이션 같은 효과를 주기 위해서다”고 밝혔다.
타이틀곡을 ‘야 우냐 (U MAD)’로 선정한 이유를 묻자 “‘야 우냐 (U MAD)’는 처음부터 타이틀곡으로 하자고 해서 쓴 곡은 아니다. 타이틀곡으로 선정한 이유는 에너지가 넘치고, 힘이 나는 노래기 때문이다”며 “‘LUCKY MAN’에 수록된 모든 곡들을 너무나 좋아하는데, 마지막까지 타이틀로 고민한 곡은 ‘새벽에 (In THE DaRk)’라는 넘버다. 사랑 이야기지만 에너지가 넘치고, 새벽에 들으면 마음이 말랑말랑 해지는 느낌을 준다. 제 스스로 감정이 격해지는 느낌을 받았기 때문에 애착이 가는 것 같다”고 전했다.
작업할 때 주로 어디서 영감을 받냐는 질문에 “음악 작업을 할 때 다양한 곳에서 영감을 얻는다. 그중에서 주로 친구, 주변 분들의 이야기를 듣는 편인데 아이콘 멤버들도 있지만 다른 직종에 일하는 친구들의 이야기도 많이 듣는다. 제가 경험하지 못한 일상이다보니 상상을 하면서 곡으로 풀어내기도 한다. 그리고 영화, 드라마, 만화책을 보면서 영감을 얻기도 하는 것 같다”고 말했다.
마지막으로 아이콘 바비와 솔로 바비의 차이점에 대해 “확실히 차이가 있는 것 같다. 팀 안에 있으면 안정감이 있고, 제 부족한 면을 멤버들이 채워주다보니 조금 더 자신감 있게 활동하는 것 같다. 반면 솔로일 때는 3분을 제 스스로 채워야 하다보니 그 시간을 완벽하게 만들기 위해 더 고민하고 노력하지 않나 싶다”고 덧붙였다.
