Kim Soon-ja, CEO of Hansung Food, is on trial for "Kimchi Master No. 1 Suspected of Rotten Cabbage."

Kim Soon-ja, CEO of Hansung Food, "Kimchi Master No. 1," who is suspected of manufacturing kimchi with defective ingredients such as rotten cabbage, has been handed over to trial.

According to the prosecution on the 1st, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (chief prosecutor Park Hye-young) of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office indicted eight Hansung Food officials, including CEO Kim Soon-ja, on charges of violating the Food Sanitation Act.

They are suspected of manufacturing about 240,000 kilograms of kimchi from 2019 to February last year using defective food materials such as discolored cabbage and moldy radish as raw materials.

The case became known by a media report in February last year, and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the Rural Development Administration launched an investigation and sent it to the prosecution in October of the same year.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety handed over the case, believing that A, an official of Hansung Food, was the main culprit of using bad food materials, but it was revealed that CEO Kim Soon-ja was also involved during the prosecution's investigation.

Accordingly, the prosecution sought an arrest warrant from CEO Kim Soon-ja on December 30 last year, but the court rejected the request on the grounds of guaranteeing the right to defend.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs selected Kim as a "food master" in 2007.

After the allegations were raised, CEO Kim Soon-ja canceled and returned the qualifications of masters and masters, and the factory, which was suspected of defective kimchi, was also closed.
