Naju City and Hwasun County Accelerate Mutual Growth through ‘Hometown Love Donation’ Reciprocal Giving

From administrative center staff to local agricultural cooperative employees—pooling 14 million won and heartfelt support to break down boundaries between neighboring municipalities and drive a joint leap forward in local finance and the regional economy.

(Naju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Naju City and Hwasun County are setting an exemplary model of mutual cooperation and exchange between local governments by carrying out a comprehensive "Hometown Love Donation" reciprocal giving campaign that spans both administrative agencies and financial institutions.

This reciprocal giving initiative, which transcends the administrative and economic boundaries of neighboring regions, is expected to serve as a turning point for strengthening local finances, revitalizing the regional economy, and laying the groundwork for shared development.

On the 8th, Seongbuk-dong in Naju City and Iseo-myeon in Hwasun County held a reciprocal donation event to foster mutual growth and harmony between the regions. A total of 20 public officials—10 from Seongbuk-dong, Naju, and 10 from Iseo-myeon, Hwasun—voluntarily participated, delivering donations to each other's municipalities and offering enthusiastic support.

Officials from both municipalities stated that the event was organized to deeply share the original purpose of the Hometown Love Donation system and to strengthen a sustainable exchange and cooperation framework between neighboring regions that share the same living sphere.

The initiative is garnering a positive response from the local community, particularly because public officials are taking the lead in demonstrating affection for other regions and promoting a culture of giving. Im Young-hee, Head of Seongbuk-dong, emphasized, "This reciprocal donation serves as a meaningful opportunity for Seongbuk-dong in Naju City and Iseo-myeon in Hwasun County to encourage each other's potential for growth and forge a closer relationship." She added, "We will not let this end as a one-time event but will continue our exchange and cooperation across various fields to achieve mutually beneficial development."

Following the lead of administrative agencies, employees from local agricultural cooperatives (Nonghyup)—the pillars of the local agricultural economy—also joined in a large-scale donation drive. According to Naju City and Hwasun County, staff from four cooperatives—Naju Nonghyup, Bonghwang Nonghyup, Neungju Nonghyup, and Dogok Nonghyup—each donated 7 million won to the other municipality, totaling 14 million won, to support the "Hometown Love Donation System."

Employees from Naju Nonghyup and Bonghwang Nonghyup made donations to Hwasun County, while those from Neungju Nonghyup and Dogok Nonghyup contributed to Naju City, demonstrating a spirit of mutual support. This initiative was the result of the cooperatives—which have long maintained ties through agriculture—voluntarily uniting to realize the vision of "rural areas growing together."

A representative from the participating cooperatives stated, "We hope the spirit of mutual encouragement becomes a strong link connecting our rural communities and regions." They added, "Using this reciprocal donation as a stepping stone, we will continue to expand practical cooperative projects aimed at agricultural development and the revitalization of local communities."

Naju Mayor Yoon Byeong-tae also expressed his gratitude, saying, "I deeply thank the employees of the four cooperatives for transcending regional self-interest and pooling their generous support." He continued, "I hope this reciprocal donation further strengthens the friendly cooperation between Naju City and Hwasun County and serves as a catalyst for spreading a culture of sharing and mutual growth throughout the community." The Hometown Love Donation System allows individuals to make donations to local governments across the country, excluding the area where they are currently registered as residents. These donations are widely used to bolster local finances, revitalize local economies, and fund projects that enhance resident welfare.

Donors also enjoy substantial benefits, including tax incentives and return gifts. Donations up to 100,000 won qualify for a full tax credit; for amounts between 100,000 won and 200,000 won, a 44% tax credit applies, while the portion exceeding 200,000 won receives a 16.5% tax credit.

Additionally, donors can select return gifts—such as premium local specialties and gift vouchers—valued at up to 30% of their donation amount, creating tangible benefits for both the donors and the local governments.
