이재명 대통령이 4일 전날 제9회 6·3 지방선거에서 투표용지 부족이란 초유의 사태가 발생한 것에 대해 "민주공화국에서 뭣보다 철저해야 할 선거 관리에 납득하기 쉽지 않은 허점이 발생한 점에 대해 매우 큰 유감을 표한다"고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 이날 오후 청와대에서 열린 제36차 수석보좌관회의 모두 발언에서 "모든 국가기관은 국민의 신성한 참정권 행사 과정에 조금의 빈틈이 없도록 만반 준비를 다해야 될 책무가 있다"며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "아쉽게도 어제 서울 일부 지역에서 투표 용지 부족으로 주민들이 큰 혼란·불편을 겪으셨다고 한다"며 "관계 기관은 행정부가 가진 권한·책임을 모두 사용해 문제 발생 이유를 명확히 밝히고, 책임질 게 있다면 명확히 책임을 물어야 되겠다"고 했다.

이어 "선거 과정에서 경쟁이 어떠했든 여야 모두 주권자를 대리해 국민 삶을 지키고 국가에 더 나은 내일을 개척해야 될 동반자들"이라며 "선거가 끝난 만큼 정치권도 주권자가 명령한 실질 민생 개선·지역 균형 발전·국민 통합에 함께 힘 모아주길 바란다"고 했다.
더불어 "정부도 지방선거에 담긴 국민들 뜻을 겸허하게 받들어 소속 정당 여부와 관계없이 새로 선출된 지방정부와 적극 협력하겠다"며 "모든 국민 마음을 모아 국민 삶 진전·대한민국 발전에 온 힘을 쏟겠다"고 덧붙였했다.
