국가지점번호는 전 국토의 위치 안내 방식을 하나로 통일해 도로명주소가 부여되지 않는 산악이나 해양 등 비거주지역의 위치를 좌표로 나타낸 표지판이다. 이는 등산 중 조난이나 추락 등 재난·사고가 발생했을 때 구조기관이 사고 지점을 정확하게 파악해 골든타임을 확보할 수 있도록 돕는 중요한 국가안전망 역할을 하고 있다.
제천시는 지난 4월 16일부터 약 한 달 동안 금성면 사곡리 일대를 포함한 총 129개소를 대상으로 국가지점번호판의 상태를 점검하는 일제 조사를 실시했다.
조사 결과 시설물이 훼손되거나 없어진 것으로 확인된 금성면 구룡리와 수산면 서곡리 일대 2개소에 대해서는 즉시 보수 및 재설치 작업을 완료해 위치 안내의 공백을 최소화했다.
제천시 관계자는 “국가지점번호판은 산행 중 발생할 수 있는 응급상황에서 시민의 생명을 지키는 안전권과 직결된 중요한 시설물”이라며, “앞으로도 지속적인 점검과 정밀한 관리를 통해 시민들이 안심하고 야외활동을 즐길 수 있도록 빈틈없는 안전 주소체계를 구축해 나가겠다”고 전했다.
