전남바이오진흥원 친환경센터는 14일 미래팜(유)와 ‘눈꽃산삼 기능성 확대 및 사업화 공동연구’를 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이번 협약은 전남 곡성 지역의 특산물인 ‘눈꽃산삼(산삼배양근)’의 기능성 소재 활용 범위를 넓히고, 이를 기반으로 건강기능식품, 바이오소재, 농생명 산업 분야의 실질적인 사업화를 촉진하기 위해 마련됐다.
협약에 따라 미래팜(유)은 스마트팜 기반 산삼배양근 생산 기술을 연계해 눈꽃산삼의 안정적인 원물 공급과 현장 실증을 책임진다. 이를 통해 지역 특화형 그린바이오 산업 모델을 구축하고 기능성 제품 개발과 산업화 확대를 추진할 계획이다.
전남바이오진흥원 친환경센터는 눈꽃산삼의 기능성 성분 분석과 효능평가, 고부가가치 소재화 연구를 전방위로 지원한다. 아울러 국가 및 지자체 연구개발(R&D) 사업을 공동 기획하고, 제품화·사업화를 위한 기술 지원을 통해 연구성과가 산업적으로 확산될 수 있도록 협력할 방침이다.
그린바이오본부 친환경센터는 전남의 특화작물을 활용한 기능성 바이오소재 산업이 미래 성장 가능성이 매우 높은 만큼, 이번 민관 협력을 통해 지역 농가의 부가가치 창출과 전남 그린바이오 산업의 경쟁력이 한층 강화될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
전남바이오진흥원 관계자는 “이번 협약을 계기로 지역 특화작물의 기능성 연구와 산업화를 확대해 전남 그린바이오 산업의 글로벌 경쟁력을 키워나가겠다”며 “눈꽃산삼을 활용한 다양한 기능성 소재 개발과 성공적인 사업화 모델 창출을 적극 지원할 것”이라고 강조했다.
이일규 미래팜(유) 대표 역시 “전남바이오진흥원의 우수한 연구 인프라와의 협력을 통해 눈꽃산삼의 기능성을 과학적으로 고도화하겠다”며 “이를 바탕으로 건강기능식품 및 바이오 산업 분야까지 사업 영역을 과감히 확대해 나갈 계획”이라고 포부를 밝혔다.
