광주시는 지난 11일부터 6월 7일까지 ‘2026 광주형 청년갭이어 지원사업’ 참여자 30명을 모집한다고 밝혔다. ‘갭이어(Gap Year)’란 학업이나 업무를 잠시 중단하고 여행, 봉사, 인턴십 등을 통해 진로를 탐색하는 기간을 의미하며, 시는 청년들이 익숙한 환경을 떠나 새로운 도전을 할 수 있도록 발판을 마련할 계획이다.
지원 대상은 공고일 기준 광주광역시에 주민등록을 둔 19세부터 39세 이하의 미취업 청년이다. 개인은 물론 최대 4인까지 팀 단위 신청이 가능하며, 팀 신청 시에는 팀원 개별 서류 제출과 면접 참여가 필수적이다.
최종 선발된 30명에게는 파격적인 경제적 지원이 이뤄진다. 개인에게는 최대 140만 원, 팀 단위 참여 시에는 인원수에 따라 최대 500만 원의 프로젝트 활동비를 지급한다. 지원금은 타 지역 체류를 위한 숙박비와 교통비, 프로젝트 실행 비용 등으로 자유롭게 사용할 수 있어 청년들의 경제적 부담을 대폭 낮췄다.
참여자들은 오는 7월부터 9월까지 약 30일간 광주를 벗어난 국내 타 지역에서 프로젝트를 수행하게 된다. 프로그램은 크게 두 가지 유형으로 나뉜다.

참가를 희망하는 청년은 아르케 누리집을 통해 프로젝트 계획서와 관련 서류를 접수하면 된다. 시는 서류 심사와 면접 심사를 거쳐 6월 중 최종 참여자를 발표할 계획이다.
