프랑스 가수 카미유 브리즈는 2025년 아카데미 최우수 주제가상(Best Original Song)을 받았다. 이는 예술의 나라 프랑스 음악사에서 누구도 열지 못했던 문을 최초로 열어 젖힌 순간이었다.
범죄 누아르부터 인문적 드라마까지 인간의 심연을 정교하게 직조해 온 프랑스 영화 거장 자크 오디아르 감독이 생애 처음으로 뮤지컬이라는 형식에 도전하며 여러 장르가 결합된 범죄 스릴러 영화 ‘에밀리아 페레즈(Emilia Pérez)’를 발표하였다. 라틴 아메리카의 폭력과 구원을 품은 서사를 음악으로 그려낸 작품이었다. 영화는 2025년 제97회 미국 아카데미 시상식에서 여우조연상과 최우수 주제가상을 거머쥐었다.
주제가를 작곡한 프랑스 작곡가 클레망 뒤콜은 클래식과 실험적 사운드에 어쿠스틱의 섬세한 숨결을 얹어 프랑스 영화음악의 새로운 길을 열어가는 인물이다. 그와 호흡하여 세계에 울림을 전한 가수 카미유 브리즈는 많은 이야기를 품고 있는 예술가였다.

동양의 작은 나라 한국에서 취미로 인터넷 음악방송을 매만지던 필자의 귀에 가수의 노래가 들려왔다. 이후 세상에 그를 알린 인물이 프랑스 샹송의 거장 클로드 누가로(1929~2004)였다. 필자의 기억에 그는 가수에 대하여 ‘진짜가 나타났다’라고 말한 것으로 알고 있다. 다음 해 클로드 누가로가 세상을 떠났다.
